Today large amounts of antibiotics and medicinal zinc is used in industrial pig production to overcome post-weaning diarrhea – a disease affecting piglets after weaning, leading to extensive productivity loss for farmers and reduced animal welfare. With the recent ban of medicinal zinc in European new products for maintaining health in piglets, while weaning, are urgently needed.
Ablacto+ is a feed additive comprising Binding Proteins™ which effectively reduces the risk of E. coli related post-weaning diarrhea in piglets. Early development has been supported by an InnoBooster Grant from the Danish Innovation Fund, and the current project is supported by the Danish Ministry of Environment and Food (GUDP program) with partners from Novozymes, Technical University of Denmark, SEGES Danish Pig Research center, and Aarhus University, commercial development of Ablacto+ is ongoing.
Project period: February 2020 – October 2023
